Children living with long?term conditions: A meta?aggregation of parental experiences of partnership nursing

Aim To explore how parents of children with long-term conditions experience partnership in paediatric and neonatal nursing care to identify existing barriers facilitators. Background Parent–nurse is fundamental nursing. Partnership characterised by five attributes: parental participation, negotiation, mutual trust respect, shared roles decision-making, communication. Little known about the experiences specific living a condition. Design A qualitative meta-aggregation review following Joanna Briggs Institute approach. Methods comprehensive search was conducted six electronic databases. Studies were assessed according inclusion exclusion criteria. Qualitative findings illustrative quotes from included studies extracted grouped into categories which informed synthesised findings. This has been reported PRISMA guidelines. Findings total 4,404 screened, 162 full-text against criteria, included. The developed three overarching as follows: (a) empowering become involved, (b) effective communication recognise expertise (c) collaborative nurse–family relationships. Conclusion Parents valued collaboration where both nurses are recognised equally for their skills expertise. power struggle existed between when not recognised. appreciated who empowered them develop new knowledge own child. Relevance clinical practice Nurses need that have surrounding requirements children. Collaboration negotiation key successful parents. frequently reflect on they successfully partnering ensure all parties nurse/parent/child triad feel supported empowered.
